74th Republic Day Reception in Seoul

 

  1. Ambassador of India to Republic of Korea Amit Kumar hosted a reception to celebrate the 74th Republic Day on February 1, 2023. The event was attended by Vice-Chairman of India-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group Mr. Lim Jeong-Seong, Member of National Assembly Rep. Mr. Kim Ju-young, and Dy Minister for Economic Affairs from Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Kang Jae-kwon, as Guests of Honour.

  2. More than 500 people attended the reception including Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic Corps, representatives from RoK Government, business community, media fraternity, universities, think tanks and cultural spheres.

  3. Extending a warm welcome to all guests, Ambassador Amit Kumar in his remarks briefly mentioned about several impressive milestones that India had achieved in its more than seven decade long journey as a sovereign democratic Republic. He also spoke about historical & cultural bonds between India and ROK as well as interactions in the contemporary era including India’s contribution to the Korean War. He underscored the need to widen and deepening the Special Strategic Partnership, highlighting the significance of 2023, when the two countries are celebrating 50 year of diplomatic relations. Referring to the G-20 Summit, Ambassador Kumar conveyed that India will work closely with RoK and other partners for a successful outcome, and that India & RoK will strengthen cooperation on regional and global issues.

  4. Vice Chairman Rep Lim Jeong-Seong, Dy Minister for Economic Affairs from MoFA Kang Jae-kwon and Rep Kim Ju-young also gave congratulatory remarks and hoped to make 2023 an eventful year with tangible outcomes to celebrate the golden jubilee year of bilateral relations.

  5. A Children's Choir Group – ‘Brilliante” sang the National Anthems of both India and ROK. A cultural program was also organized on this occasion. Korean sitar artist Mr. Saembawy Han and tabla player Mr. Myeong Cheol Jung presented an Indian classical music performance followed by Odissi classical dance performance by Ms. Beena Keum.

  6. Separately, booths highlighting India’s fast economic growth, business conducive policies & achievements, defence industries & prospects of collaboration, tourism potential, and display of cultural artifacts including musical instruments, were also set up as part of the National Day Reception.
