Procedure for Attestation of Documents (Commercial/Educational/Power of Attorney/ Certificates etc):

i) Documents issued by Korean authorities (Government Institutions / Companies  / Universities etc.):

Issuing and Accepting Apostilles-

The Hague Apostille Convention, 1961, abolishes the requirement of legalization of foreign documents for use in any member country, once an Apostille certificate (including e-Apostille) has been issued by a competent authority of the country where the document originates. Therefore, no further attestation or legalization by Embassy on apostilled document is required for use in India as India is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention.

In countries, which are not member of the Hague Apostille Convention, 1961, these documents are required to be attested by Embassy of India after pre-authentication by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or any other concerned authority in the country), for use in India.

ii)Procedure for Attestation of Documentsin r/o Indian nationals (Educational / Power of Attorney / Marriage Certificate / Birth Certificate / Other Misc. documentsissued in India):
All original documents/copies requiring attestation should first be authenticated by the designated authorities of the State/Union Territory from where the document has been issued. In case of personal documents, Home/General Administration Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory are the designated authorities. In case of educational documents, the same should first be authenticated by the Education Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory.   1. Original Documents and a Photocopy (or Photocopies) of the documents.
  1. Authority letter in case the person concerned cannot come to Embassy (except in case of Power of Attorney or certain commercial documents such as formation of a company where personal attendance is must). The reason for requiring the attestation from Indian Embassy should also be mentioned.
  1. All Korean documents should first be authenticated by Korean authorities, which include appostille from Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Ministry of Justice.

NOTE: PCC will only be issued after receipt of fresh police verification of the PCC application. This will apply to all categories of applicants.

Applicants are advised to apply well ahead of time as issue of PCCs would only be done after due police verification.
