Hon'ble Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mr Thawarchand Gehlot visited Seoul from September 5-7, 2018 to participate in the "3rd ASEM Conference on Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons" held in partnership with National Human Rights Commission of Republic of Korea on September 5 and 6, 2018. Mr Gehlot was the Keynote Speaker at the opening ceremony where he laid out the legal framework which existed in tandem with the traditional system of protecting the welfare of older people in India. The Minister's address was well received by an audience comprising of Ministers and Officials dealing with welfare of elderly people in all the ASEM countries, diplomats stationed in Korea, Media, Academia and NGOs from Korea and around the world.
2. Minister Mr Gehlot also interacted with Mr Lee Nak-yon, Prime Minister of Republic of Korea who inaugurated the conference and also with Ministerial officials from Hungary, Myanmar, Philippines, Indonesia among others and exchanged views on the issues relating to ageing and welfare of elderly people in the respective countries.
3. On September 6, 2018, Minister Mr Gehlot attended the opening ceremony of Sarang Culture Festival at Samsung Hall in Ewha University organised by Embassy of India in partnership with Seoul Metropolitan Govt and witnessed Kathak and Odissi dance performances by artists from India as well as Korea.
