Inaugural Event of the 11th edition of the annual Sarang Festival on October 14, 2025
The Embassy hosted the inaugural event of the 11th edition of the annual Sarang Festival - The Festival of India in the Republic of Korea on October 14, 2025 which featured a captivating Kathakali performance, renowned for its elaborate costumes, vibrant makeup and expressive gestures.
Ambassador-designate Mr. Gourangalal Das felicitated the Kathakali troupe, which kept the audience spell bound with an hour-long repertoire entailing Duryodhanavadham from Mahabharata. Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Nishi Kant Singh and Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, Mr. Lee Sung-heon delivered brief welcome remarks. Kathakali Troupe is led by renowned artist Mr. Sreenathan Sreenatha Mandiram.
The Sarang festival introduces facets of rich, diverse Indian culture, including classical dance performances, music, films, art exhibitions, culinary experiences, etc. The event witnessed participation of around 400 guests, including friends of India in Korea, drawn from different spheres, diplomatic corps, media, cultural figures, etc.
주한인도대사관은 2025년 10월 14일 제11회 ‘사랑 – 인도문화축제’의 개막식을 개최하였습니다. 이번 행사에서는 화려한 의상, 다채로운 분장, 그리고 섬세한 표정 연기로 유명한 인도의 전통 무용극 ‘카타칼리’ 공연이 펼쳐져 관객들의 큰 호응을 얻었습니다.
고랑랄 다스 주한인도대사 내정자는 이날 무대를 장식한 카타칼리 공연단에게 축하를 전했고 공연단은 약 한 시간 동안 마하바라타 서사의 일부인 ‘두료다나바담’을 선보여 관객들을 매료시켰습니다.
또한 행사에는 니시 칸트 싱 부대사와 이성헌 서대문구청장이 환영사를 전했습니다. 이번 카타칼리 공연단은 스리나탄 스리나타 만디람 씨가 이끄는 팀입니다.
사랑 축제는 인도의 풍부하고 다양한 문화를 한국에 소개하는 축제로 전통 무용과 음악 공연, 영화 상영, 미술 전시, 인도 음식 체험 등 다채로운 프로그램으로 구성되어 있습니다. 이번 개막식에는 주한 외교단, 언론인, 문화예술계 인사 등 약 500여 명의 인도를 사랑하는 한국 손님들이 참석하여 자리를 빛냈습니다.
