Mr. Gourangalal Das

Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea 


Mr. Gourangalal Das joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1999. He has held various positions in Indian diplomatic Missions in  Beijing, San Francisco and Washington D.C. As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, he helped set up the Centre for Contemporary China Studies (2017-18), headed the Americas Division (2018-20) and most recently headed the East Asia Division (2023-25). Previously, he had also served as Director in Prime Minister’s Office, and as Deputy Secretary dealing with India’s relations with China and Japan in the   Ministry of External Affairs.

Mr. Das holds Masters' degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics and Masters’ degree in Translation and Interpretation in   Chinese from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, Monterey, California (USA). He is married to Mrs. Harsha Dass, an executive with the Indian Railways, and the couple have two children.
