A grand event was held today at the Millennium Seoul Hilton to introduce Indian Mangoes, which are being imported for the first time to the Republic of Korea (ROK). Over a hundred guests from a cross-section of Korean society, including major chain stores, wholesalers and buyers, participated at the event. A delegation of Indian exporters led by Chairman D.K.Singh of India’s APEDA (Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) traveled to Korea especially for this event.

Guests were treated to a variety of savory items using Indian mango, including canapes, tarts, pastries and juices, to shoawcase the unique range of flavours and the diversity of use that is possible with this outstanding fruit. Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami welcomed the guests and introduced the world famous Indian mangoes, highlighting that India was working to export other categories of India’s best fresh fruit to Korea in the near future. Chairman of APEDA Mr.DK Singh also addressed the audience and presented a short video to fully introduce the range and variety of India’s mangoes. The visiting Indian exporters were also introduced to the audience.
3. This is the very first time that the famed Indian mangoes are being formally exported to ROK, after over five years of work to complete necessary procedures required by Korean authorities. On 26 May 2017, Indian mangoes will be launched for sale at 30 E-Mart stores across Korea. A similar Mango event would also be held at Westin Chosun Busan on 27 May.
4. Mangoes from India are said to be the “king of fruit”. India is the world’s largest producer of mangoes, by far. India produces over 18 million tonnes accounting for about 42 percent of the worlds production. India grows over a thousand varietals of mango varietals, which differ in terms of size, flavor, texture and fragrance. The mango is a central element in India’s food and nutrition culture, and is now being widely exported as a well-loved fruit, enjoyed by people all over the world.
